Have you ever thought, felt or been so sure something was a certain way, bashed yourself over it, taken decisions based on that thought or feeling only to realize later that it was not so?🙋♀
Perception is a powerful tool and it can make or unmake you. It is defined as "the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses." Anytime the senses are involved in anything, there is a possibility of error. Wrong perceptions can lead you to take wrong decisions, stop you from exploring a relationship or destroying one.
People's perception of you can also prevent you from achieving something worthwhile, it can even affect how you perceive yourself and prevent you from living your best life. Your perception of yourself or of others is shaped by circumstances or what you think you know or feel.
We all know and love David, the bear and lion killer, the giant slayer, the anointed one, the mighty warrior, yes that one. At some point in his life, he was a victim of wrong perceptions. King Saul, his predecessor had chased David all over Israel, through caves, through the desert, over mountains, you name it. Through it all David with the help of God had outwitted Saul, sometimes escaping death by the skin of his teeth.
Finally in 1 Samuel 27:1, "... David said in his heart, “Now I will die one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines..."😯. Of course, hat was not in the cards, not part of the plan, never gonna happen. Saul could never kill David because God was not going to sit back and let that happen. He would kill Saul first before he even touched a strand of hair on David's head! Based on the happenings of the previous times David perceived, albeit wrongly that Saul could kill him and made an escape plan based on that thought.
Perhaps you are going through a bad patch that just seems endless and because of that, like David, you have concluded that the situation will be your undoing. I am here to encourage you that God is still on your side and that being good to you is still His plan. Let us all be careful in how we perceive things; always search for the real truth and not pierce ourselves unnecessarily over situations that in actuality do not exist or cannot arise.
