Yes, I can!
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Phil 4:13. Another favorite verse we love to quote and it is a powerful statement indeed. To know that Paul was in prison when he wrote that verse even gives it more power. In his lowest moments he still felt tall, strong and able. Paul realized that His [God's] strength is made perfect his [Paul's] weakness. Paul knew he had no power of his own but as long as he stayed connected to the power in Christ he could do all things.
Before v.13, Paul listed some of the challenges he had endured. He had every right to feel defeated, depressed, hopeless and helpless but through it all he looked to Christ and took strength from Him. Paul's life saw a lot of troubles but he found it all fulfilling and purposeful. He endured because he had a goal set before him and nothing was going to stop him from achieving it.
" I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea..."2 Corinthians 11:23 ff (read the rest).
That was Paul's testimony but he never gave up till he finished running his race. You may not have achieved some of the goals you set for yourself because you gave up at the first sign of trouble or when you met with opposition. Know that we cannot achieve much with our own strength and if we will finish our race, finish the good fight we must necessarily depend on the strength of Christ. In Him and with His strengthening we can do all things. Believe it and in 2019, just go for it!
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
When all is said and done, may this be our testimony also.
