Samaria was under siege. Ben-Hadad of Assyria had mustered his entire army and besieged the city. No one could go out or come in. As this seemingly never ending attack continued, famine broke out within the city. A donkey's head and a dove's dung became hot commodities; the sellers were engaging in price gouging selling these at outrageous prices! People were cooking and eating their children! Fights and quarrels were rampant as everyone struggled to survive.
The king was helpless, had no solutions and was at the point of giving up. So he sought out the prophet of God. His words to the prophet betrayed his state of mind. "...And the king said, “All this misery is from the Lord ! Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” 2 Kings 6:33
He was tired of waiting on God to intervene and save his people from the situation. He was near breaking point, perhaps thinking of surrendering to the Assyrians. Anything was better that the current state of affairs. And he blamed God (well, God allowed this to happen); never mind that they did not always do what was right in God's eyes!! He was done and did not want to wait any longer for God's deliverance.
Why wait? Elisha answered the king and said he should wait because deliverance was coming the very next day. (2 Kings 17:1). How? He did not know, he just knew God was ready in intervene. He should wait because God was bringing them a resounding victory!! And what a victory it was!!
Maybe you find yourself in a tight position too and you are tired of waiting for God. You are at the point where you are scrambling to find your own solution and though it is not the best, you are thinking it is better than nothing or better than your current situation. Maybe this morning you are asking yourself "why wait any longer?"
Like Elisha told the king, wait because God's timing is never wrong. Wait because God has better in store for you. Wait because God had no intention of disgracing you. Wait because He makes all things beautiful in His time! Commit the issue(s) to Him and trust Him to work it (them) out for you.
