Who Dropped You?

King Saul and his son Jonathan were killed on Mount Gilboa in a battle between Israel and the Philistines. News of their demise got to the palace and everyone panicked. People started running for their lives as confusion ensured. The king was dead.

We are told in 2 Samuel 4:4 that Jonathan had a son who was being cared for by a nurse in the palace when the bad news was relayed. The nurse grabbed the child and in her haste to escape the palace, dropped him. "... He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but as she hurried to leave, he fell and became disabled. His name was Mephibosheth."

Mephibosheth was dropped by his nurse, someone he loved, someone who cared for him, someone he trusted. She was supposed to keep him safe, protect him from harm, ensure he was well cared for and perhaps groom him to be king in the future.

Some of us have been dropped by people we trusted, respected and looked up to. Parents. Bosses. Mentors. Relatives. People we believed had or should have had our best interest at heart. Some have been falsely accused, sexually, physically and mentally abused by people who should have nurtured them, cared for them, propped them up, groomed them for greatness.

And like Mephibosheth, we still carry the scars, disabilities and the pain of the drop in our bodies, hearts and minds. Some of these are obvious and everyone like Mephibosheth's lameness, but some are hidden, locked tight behind flawless make-up, impeccable weaves and wigs and sharp suits.

Yet, Mephibosheth was given a place at the king's table inspite of his lameness (2 Samuel 9). Because of his disability, he had hidden away in a godforsaken place and when called by king David to be a constant guest at his table, "Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” "v.8.

The drop had affected his sense of self, he had zilch self esteem and his life had taken a turn for the worse. The person who would have been in line for the throne saw himself as a dead dog. David restored to him the lands and all that belonged to his father and grandfather in addition to dining with him daily.

No dropping should change our lives forever. For if you are in Christ you are a new creation. God is able to wipe away your tears, deliver you from the consequences of any dropping and restore you to your rightful place.

It is my prayer that you shall be delivered from any disability, seen and unseen that has reduced your worth in your own eyes, that you think has rendered you unqualified to experience the goodness of God. May the Holy Spirit minister to you and lift you up, change your perception of yourself and help you see you as God sees you so you will walk in His grace and favor and walk on your high places.

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica.
