Who Am I?
Every now and then we all need to do a self check and remind ourselves of who we are. The worst mistake we can make is to allow our past or present circumstances to define who we are. So many things happen in our lives between birth and death that taint or even destroy our identities.
Men have the tendency to label us based on what they see or perceive in our lives. The Bible has many examples of people identified by their situations - the woman with the issue of blood, the Samaritan woman. In Matthew 26:6, we are told of a man called Simon the Leper who made a feast for Jesus. I doubt he was still a leper at the time because no-one would go to a leper's house for a feast. In fact he would not even live among the people. Perhaps Jesus had healed him, the Bible does not say but he definitely was healed and was obviously a wealthy man. His name, though still had "leper" attached.
What people call you does not change the fact that you have a new identity in Christ; for if anyone is on Christ, (s)he is a new creation. Do not let anyone belittle you because of something that happened in your life.
Who do they say you are? The girl who had a child out of wedlock? the woman who cannot keep a man? The woman whose kids are up to no good? The one who was abused? The one who is always sick?
Whatever label they have placed on you or have forced you to accept; that is not who you are. It is who God says you are that really matters. So keep repeating that to yourself, believe it, internalize it and begin to walk in that identity.
So who am I?
I am a child of God and a joint heir with Christ
I am His image bearer
I am a friend of Jesus
I am forgiven, justified and redeemed
I am a new creation
I am not condemned by God
I am accepted by Christ
I am righteous and sanctified in Christ
I am set free in Christ, no longer a slave to sin
I am chosen, holy and blameless before God
I am marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit
I am seated in heavenly places with Christ
I am fearless in Christ
I am a citizen of Heaven!!!
Now get up, walk out with your head high, shoulders squared and step into the joy of the Lord!!
