Trust Issues

The Israelites are a favorite group of people. We love them and then we love to bash them for their seeming ingratitude, for how quick they could turn from singing to lamenting and their knack for mistreating their leader (Moses). I always say we are more like them than we think. Their journey through the desert brought out their true colors in the same way our own journey with God in this life brings out our true selves!

In Exodus 16, they got hungry and started grumbling against Moses. Egypt suddenly looked good as they reminisced about the pots of meats they used to eat! "Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. Exodus 16:4 NLT

Of course it happened as God said and in the morning, manna fell from heaven for their consumption. Each family was to take as much as it needed for that day. The instruction was that they should not keep any of the food overnight to eat the next day. New manna would be provided for them every morning. "But some of them didn’t listen and kept some of it until morning. But by then it was full of maggots and had a terrible smell..." Exodus 16:20 NLT

Like us sometimes, these guys had serious trust issues. They did not believe God would give them fresh food each morning as promised. They suffered from the "what if" syndrome. Though God had performed a never-seen-before miracle right in front of them, they still could not believe He would do it again! They devised a plan to reserve some against God's wishes in case God did not come through the next day as promised!

I know this sounds familiar. We may say we trust God but our actions do not always speak to that. We may profess our trust with our mouths but in actuality try to take handle the situation ourselves. When God says He will do something we must trust that He is not a man that He would lie! He says it and He does it! So learn to trust Him and take Him at His word, not just today but always! Your handling the situation your way will most likely not end up well anyway. Let us all work on our trust issues! God will help us!

Blessings!
