I do not like extended release pills. They take forever to kick in. The medication is slowly released into the body over a period of time, usually 12 or 24 hours. Where I have no choice I choose the 12 hour one over the 24 hour one, because I do not like waiting too long for relief. I used to think that once you swallowed the extended release capsule or tablet it would start working immediately and keep you pain free for the duration. Imagine my shock when I realized it rather took time to work.
God's promises are like that. He gives you the promise, you swallow it but it takes time to manifest. Between the swallowing and the manifestation is the process, which no one really likes.
The process though allows God to work with and in us to make us ready to enjoy the full benefit of the promise. In the process, He trims us, prunes us, strengthens us, teaches us, corrects us, etc so that we are made fit for the promise.
Process involves pain. Ask anyone who is trying to lose weight or stay in shape. The shoe making process for instance involves actions like cutting, punching and stitching. The process can try you, test your faith, make you question God and may even make you give up. If you stay the course however and trust God and the process, you will see and enjoy the manifestation of the promise.
Process involves a series of trials and tests. As Job went through his own testing, he said this: “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold." Job 23:10. As you endure the process others may offer you or you may look for options and short cuts but resist the urge to do so. Ask Abraham how options and short cuts can bring more trouble than you bargained for.
What promise has God given you that you have swallowed? Allow God time to work it. In the fullness of time you will experience the full benefits.
