The mind is a powerful tool. It has a voice. It can speak amazing and uplifting words to you and make you feel taller than everyone in the room. It can also whisper defeating and confidence-altering words to you and leave you feeling and acting like a grasshopper. Your mind can let you see things that do not exist if you allow it; it will tell you things that put fear in you and paralyze you physically, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually.
The mind is so powerful that if you convince yourself in your mind that you can slay giants, you can and you will. I had a session with one of my mentees a few days ago. As we spoke I realized that the things making her anxious and putting her down was more in her mind as the reality reflected otherwise. Then I realized that a few days prior I had been in that same funny space. I found myself thinking about some issues and started getting anxious. It soured my mood, caused me to mutter some not so nice things to God; my whole morning was ruined and it all started in my mind.
Once I realized what was going on, I literally forced my mind out of that place; I saw how pointless my anxiety was, intentionally redirected my mind and decided to think positive thoughts. It worked and by afternoon I was laughing and joking. I was myself again.
Paul gives us a formula to steer our minds away from the negative. He says "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Philippians 4:8
We must each make a conscious effort and intentionally abandon negative, crippling thoughts and intentionally embrace thoughts that elevate, boost confidence, give hope, strengthen our inner man and propel us to be the best we can be. Remember you are His workmanship created unto good works which God prepared for you from the beginning. You are destined for great things; you were created to succeed and to bring God glory. Do not let your mind tell you otherwise!
