The Good & The Bad
So what do you do when you find yourself in an impossible and desperate situation where you run out of all options and God seems silent ? Like Job's wife sometimes you just want to give up and end it all.
"Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” Clearly, she had reached her limit, hit rock bottom and lost all hope. Perhaps, she felt horrible about what her husband was enduring; or she was concerned about herself and was not prepared to spend the rest of her life sticking with a man in Job's situation. Let us not forget she had also lost everything-her home, her wealthy lifestyle, her children. Whatever her reason, she was in that extremely desperate place for her to even suggest this.
Job's response was truly profound. "But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips." Job 2:10.
That is a statement that takes great faith to make. Basically, let us learn to take the good and the bad. We are assured in the book of James that trials and sufferings strengthen our faith. How so? Have you noticed that the times we draw closer to God are the times we feel the world is closing in on us and all hell is breaking loose? Job is encouraging us to trust God even when we can't see the way clearly for there is no problem so big God cannot solve or see us through.
Show me one person who has not lashed out at God one time or another, and I will say she is a liar. We have our moments of doubt, of anger against God but when that moment goes away, let us keep trusting, believing, having faith that through it all He is still our God and will come through for us.
