"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." Ephesians 6:10
Here is some sound advice from the apostle Paul, in fact it is more than sound. This is all you and I need today to encourage us, make us breathe a sigh of relief and walk out in confidence.
Life happens, stuff happens and sometimes there is only so much we can do about it. We are human and our strength can fail, we can get discouraged when unexpected bad things happen to us; when life seems to be going in circles instead of progressing; when we have to take a financial hit out of the blue; or when we receive surprising news from the doctor.
In all of these, the verse encourages us to be strong not in ourselves but in the Lord. The Almighty, loving, great, wise and generous God who is always willing to fight on our behalf.
Right after the verse Paul goes on to explain why he gives that counsel. He reveals that we do not fight against flesh and blood but against powers, principalities, rulers of darkness wicked hosts in high places, i.e. spiritual forces we do not see who manipulate situations to bring us evil.
Being strong in the Lord and in the power of His might means putting on the armor that He has provided to keep us safe. So as you venture out today put on the whole armor of God knowing that your protection is assured. Let me just list the pieces for you: helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, belt of truth, shield of faith, the sword of the spirit and the shoes of peace. Suit up and walk around in confidence.
