Store up treasures🎁
As we go about life working hard, saving up, investing, doing whatever it takes to make life comfortable for ourselves, our children, dependents and generations to come, we must not lose sight of the need to store up treasures in heaven. When life on this earth is over, another in heaven begins and how that life will be for you depends on how much treasures you have stored up in heaven.
The Bible gives us many tips on how to store up treasures in heaven. Jesus tells us why it is important not to just focus on building up treasures here on earth. He said in Matthew 6:19-20, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."
By this He was not encouraging us to live in squalor while on earth but rather not to be so fixated on making life comfortable for us here we forget to prepare for the afterlife.
Here are some tips from the Bible on treasure-storing:
By being kind and generous to others/acts of service however small (Matthew 10:41-42)
Serving God wholeheartedly and with the right motives (Colo. 3:23-24)
Using your gifts and talents to serve God and working in His house (1 Cor. 12)
Sharing your wealth with the less fortunate (Matt.19:16-30)
Putting your faith in Jesus rather than in worldly possessions (Matt. 19:21)
Giving yourself fully to the work of God (Matt. 19:29, 1 Cor. 15:58)
Spending time with God in prayer and bible study.
Giving generously to support His work and build His church.
This list is by no means exhaustive. God is a rewarder and Jesus talked a lot about rewarding those who seek the Lord diligently. In Rev. 22:12, He says , "“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.""
Of course it all starts with accepting Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal savior and then begin to store up treasures in heaven.
