SNOW ON SNOW

I love snow. Fresh fallen snow. Nothing is more beautiful than crispy glistening untouched fresh fallen snow. It is pure, while and covers everything on the ground- unsightly browning grass withered dried shrubbery, broken twigs and many forms of debris. I love to take pictures of snow covered landscapes and trees and look at them later to relive the gorgeous sight when the snow on the ground is long gone.

Winter Storm Skylar pummeled us yesterday downing almost two feet of snow on us. As I savored the sight of the mountain of snow, a favorite Bible verse came to mind. "“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; ..." Isaiah 1:18. Wow.

God washes away our filthiest of sins and make them look like snow.

It does not matter how deeply red our sins are; it does not matter how grave, how wicked, how abominable our sins are, He can make them as white and pure as snow. From murder to malicious gossip, He will make them as white as snow.

Whenever I say I love snow, I am told it is because I do not take part in the shoveling, which usually leaves "shovellers" with back pain, numb fingers among other temporary ailments. I get that but it still does not take away the breath-taking beauty of unshovelled snow. I choose to focus on the marvelous handiwork of God. The science behind the snowflake formation is amazing.

I found out that no two snow flakes are the same. As they tumble through the atmosphere, the shapes change with the changes in humidity and temperature. I learn that each snowflake has six arms, some short, others elongated. Though all we see with our eyes is a mass of white fluff, each snowflake is masterfully crafted by the hand of God. One writer says: "Exactly why snow crystals grow this way is not yet fully understood, although much progress has been made. The growth behavior of ice depends on the molecular structure and dynamics at the crystal surface, and this is all so complicated that no one really understands everything about it." Of course the human mind cannot fully grasp the wonder of of God's creation. Indeed "O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed..."

Job 37:14-16 says ""... Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. Do you know when God dispatches them, And causes the light of His cloud to shine? Do you know how the clouds are balanced, Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge?""

Take a moment to look around and savor the beauty of God's creation. Think of how He arranges all the things around us in the right season for our benefit. Whether you are in Massachusetts or California, South Africa or Timbuktu, you can find something around you to bless God for. By all means shovel the snow but do not lose sight of its beauty. A hot cup of tea or soup afterwards will warm you up again!

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica
