At 5am this morning, our cell phones and home phone started blowing up with calls and text messages from the kids' school. Less than an inch of snow with a film of ice has fallen and school has been called off. This is never an exciting time for parents. Suddenly we find ourselves having to arrange childcare, call out of work, cancel appointments etc to accommodate kids who now have to stay home. The children of course are always on cloud 9, elated to get an unexpected vacation!
Life is like that. Things drop on you without warning and sometimes these can turn your life upside down. A sudden bad health report from your doctor. Your child's grades drop without warning. You get laid off unexpectedly from work. Your spouse blindsides you with a request for a divorce. You find yourself with an unplanned pregnancy.
Suddenly you have to make life-altering decisions, make room for unbudgeted for expenses and quickly get your head around your new normal. Life will always throw us curve balls. It is inevitable.
On snow days like these it pays to remember that there is One who remains changeless in the changing scenes of life. On Him you can always lean when your legs are giving way. From Him you can always draw strength when you are weak. In His bosom you can lay your head and rest when you are weary. He will not always prevent the snow days though we would rather He does. He will also not leave us to slide and slip on the snow and ice mix.
This is what He says to you and I, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." Isaiah 43:2
However turbulent the waters may be; however deep the rivers may go; however hot the fire may be, God is telling you He will be with you through all of them and will get you over to the other side! Never forget that!
OK, off to wake the kids up and bundle them off somewhere so we can keep the appointments we cannot cancel!
Love, Lady Monica ❤
