Short or Best?
God's way is the best, right? So is His timing. These are not always easy to say. Sometimes you can get there by a faster route but God decides to take His time or take the longer route. It can be frustrating no doubt. However if you ask God to order your steps then know that it is He, not you who determines the route.
I cannot even imagine how the Israelites felt when they departed from Egypt. Joyful? Apprehensive? Solemn? Excited? They sure were rich, having requested and received precious precious stones from their former masters!! And so they left Egypt with God as their GPS!
"When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Exodus 13:17
God plotted their route alright but took the longer way! He could have chosen the shorter way but knowing what He knew of the people and of what laid on the shorter route, He led them another way. Let's just say the shortest way is not always the best.
If God had given them a choice they would probably have opted for the shortest route. They were already tired and would rather get "home" faster so they could finally put their feet up and rest!
Maybe you think God has taken you on this long meandering path to your next level, your place of rest, your prosperity. You see so many short routes He could have taken you on and you would be better off by now, or so you think. The good thing is unlike you and I, God knows what lies along both the short and the long routes; He knows you need to learn a few lessons still; He knows you are not yet ready for your destination; your faith still needs to be buffed up a bit. Knowing all that and knowing YOU, He has chosen the right path for you.
Like me, I know you want God's best and you wish the shortest were the best! Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not. Trust the one who is leading you. Follow His lead and He'll get you there in one piece! It will all make sense in the end.
