Rebuke=Love?

A few months ago, my husband and I were rebuked by a man we love and honor greatly. It was a bitter pill to swallow but we took it with a good attitude. Something he said stuck with me though. He said he only complained about the issue because of how he felt about us; if it was some other people he would have kept quiet and basically ended his relationship with them.

Rebuke is when someone expresses sharp disapproval or criticism of another's behavior or actions. Most people chafe at correction because they see it as judgement or control. God chastises and Jesus did too while He was on earth. When the man after God's own heart, David, sinned God sent the prophet Nathan quickly to harshly rebuke him. Unlike most people, David had a good attitude about the rebuke.

In Psalm 145 David describes rebuke in an interesting way. "...let him [a righteous man] rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it,..."

"...the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” says Hebrews 12:6. Same is expressed in Proverbs 3:12, "...the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."

Let us not be quick to dismiss correction, get defensive and miss an opportunity to straighten some things out. Yesterday I asked my husband what he does not like about me and would like me to correct. I took his answer well and promised to do better. Listen, correction never killed anyone, child or adult. I personally only correct people I care about ( just like God does. Lol).

I will end with Proverbs 12:1, it is quite hard but every version says the same thing so I could not find a softer one. It says "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid." Well, the bible said it, not me.

Blessings!

Love, Lady Monica❤
