Putting others' needs ahead of yours is not always easy. It may mean denying yourself of certain pleasures, sharing your much needed alone time with others, parting with something valuable, etc, etc.
It is part of our calling as Christians though, to put others first, seek the interest of others and serve them even if it inconveniences us. Philippians 2:4 instructs, "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."
In Matthew 14, Jesus was told of the gruesome murder of His cousin John the Baptist. John was not just His cousin but His baptizer and the one who came just to pave the way for Jesus' ministry. His death greatly affected Jesus. "When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself..."Matthew 14:13.
It was understandable that He needed some time alone to grieve, pray and just seek comfort from His father. Of course the crowd would not leave Him alone! They managed to track Jesus down and followed Him to his location. He did not push them away, He did not even get upset. "He was moved with compassion for them" so He got right back to work, ministered to them, healed them and fed all five thousand plus of them! He put them first!
May God give us the grace to follow Jesus' example. I know it is not always a walk in the park to put others' needs ahead of your own but it is the right and unselfish thing to do and God expects it of us!! Do not be weary of doing good!
