So today, I am looking at what Simon (Peter) said to Jesus in Luke 5:5.
The fisherman Simon and his team had toiled all night and caught no fish. Then Jesus came along and told him what to do to catch some fish. Simon was honest enough to tell Him they had tried all night but caught nothing then he added but because you say so I'll let down the nets.
See, Simon had been fishing all or most of his life so definitely knew the times and seasons when fish came in or went out; in fact it was his business and he even had employees. He really was a master fisherman. Now here comes a carpenter called Jesus trying to teach him fishing. 🙄 If Peter was trying to fix a door or make a chair then yeah, Jesus could teach him a thing or two. Simon had every right to lecture Jesus on why what He was saying did not make sense. Nevertheless Peter listened and obeyed.
Sometimes you will get a word from God that makes no sense, just obey! He is God after all. You do not have to agree with Him to obey Him. Peter learnt that lesson quickly and received a miracle of epic proportions. That day he caught his biggest catch ever.
Even if you are smart, you have got it together, you have planned out your life nicely, you know what you are doing, you are an expert in your field, you have won many prizes, my word to you this morning is just listen and obey, even if it makes no sense to you. Choose to obey God today and always for it will be to your benefit!
