mountains

As you go about your daily business, working hard to live a fulfilling and purposeful life you will encounter some mountains. Some of these mountains delay us, some obscure our vision so we cannot see clearly and others stop us in our tracks.

Zerrubabel and the Jewish returnees from Babylon faced some huge challenges in their attempt to rebuild the temple. He was appointed governor and right away started working on rebuilding the temple. They finished the foundation work within two years and for the next seventeen years the project stalled. They faced economic challenges and hostilities from neighbors.

The rebuilding project had become a mountain, seemingly impossible to move or skirt around. I can imagine the people felt discouraged and wondered if their dream would ever be realized.

Then Zechariah stepped in with an encouraging word from the Lord to Zerrubabel: "Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it." Zach. 4:6-7

Zerrubabel held on to the word and within a few years the construction of the temple was completed.

What mountains are you currently facing in your life?

  • Joblessness?

  • Financial difficulties?

  • Depression?

  • Sicknesses?

  • A wayward or difficult child?

  • A difficult marriage?

  • Childlessness?

  • Looming divorce?

  • Struggling to find your way?

God can help you deal with or overcome these mountains.

You must first identify your mountain and speak to it. You will notice that after God addressed Zerrubabel, He turned the mountain. You do not have to do it by your might or your intellect. In fact there are some mountains in your life you cannot overcome by your "might or power" but must necessarily resort to "My spirit, says the Lord".

God saw that the people were overwhelmed and so sent the prophet with the word to lift their spirits and spur them on. I leave you with an encouraging word from Isaiah 40:4 also, "every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain."

The mountain-moving God is able, available and willing to help.

Turn to Him.

Blessings,

Lady Monica
