God is about to rain fire and brimstone over Sodom and Gomorrah and through Abraham's intervention God decides to spare his nephew Lot and his family from certain destruction. (Gen. 19)
The instructions to Lot and his family is simple: "... “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you... Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”" "But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." Genesis 19:17 & 26.
Lot's wife may have looked back because she was apprehensive about leaving all she was familiar with for some strange place; she was leaving a place she had spent most of her life, leaving her friends, other family, her possessions behind; leaving her favorite places to hang out and her comfort zone to start life all over again!
The decision to follow Christ seems like that sometimes but you can rest, assured that you made the right decision; that you have left all behind for a far greater glory. There is nothing uncertain about walking with God for He will not lead you astray.
There is much joy, peace, love, riches and life abundant found in Christ. If you keep looking back to what you left behind-friends, family, habits-you will not progress in your walk and you will not grow and if you do not grow you will get tired of your new life in Christ.
You cannot convince me that getting drunk, clubbing in a dim sweat-filled room was fun; clogging up your lungs with smoke was cool; fuzzing up your brain with drugs was "ish"; having casual sex, etc, etc, made you feel good.
Listen, you made the right decision by coming to Jesus so march forward in the strength of the Lord and do not look back, for eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and neither has it entered into the heart of man what God has in store for you.
