Letting Go

The prophet Elijah prophesied a drought over Israel for three years as punishment for abandoning God to follow after other gods. God directed him to a brook and commanded ravens to feed Elijah. After a while the brook dried up and God asked him to go to a village where He had instructed a widow to feed Elijah. Elijah arrived and met the widow gathering sticks. He asked her for water and as she proceeded to fetch him a cup, the prophet asked for her to make him some bread too. She answered that she only had a handful of flour and a little oil left to make the last meal for herself and her son and then wait for death to overtake them. "But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son." 1 Kings 17:13 It looked like Elijah just did not get it. There was simply not enough to make food for three people. By agreeing to make bread for Elijah first, the widow was choosing a quicker death for her and her son. However by letting go of what was in her hand she gained life in abundance. Usually when we do not have enough we tend to hold on instead of letting go but the Bible teaches us that when we let go of the little we have, God enables us to have way more than we can imagine. When Moses let go of his rod, God transformed it into a miracle working devise. When Hannah let go of her only child, Samuel, God blessed her with five more! What are you holding on that you need to release to the Lord? Are you standing still when you should be moving? When we do not have enough, we tend to clutch to the little we have. When we do not know what may lie ahead of us, we would rather stand still than move! When we are not sure of what we carry, we prefer to stay in our little corner rather than venture out into the open. Nothing we release to God ever remains the same or diminishes. Whether it is your money, a few loaves of bread and fish, your time, your talents, your life. He multiples, He makes it better, He adds value to it! Practice letting go! Blessings! Love, Lady Monica ❤
