Let It Go

The Israelites are still on my mind so we will muse on them once again. A quick history: they had been in captivity in Egypt for over four hundred years. Finally God sent a deliverer in the person of Moses to bring them out into the Promised Land! When they left Egypt God did not take them through the shorter route since that would have involved them in war with the Philistines. God knew if they faced war so early in their journey they might want to go back to Egypt. Exodus 13:17.

They encountered a lot of challenges on the way, the first being the Red Sea as they felt trapped between the massive body of water and the whole army of Egypt which was coming after them. Next, they faced the challenge of hunger and then of thirst. Then at some point they got tired of eating the same food, among many others.

They followed a certain pattern of complaining though. Every time they had an issue, they would turn against Moses, rail at him, sometimes threaten to kill him and then mention Egypt. How it would have been better to serve in Egypt- Exodus 14; how they could eat pots of meat in Egypt- Exodus 16; they remembered the fish and vegetables they ate freely in Egypt-Numbers 11.

They spoke as if Egypt was all glorious! Somehow they conveniently forgot how they were treated cruelly. "They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly."

Exodus 1:14 But all of a sudden Egypt looked good, just because they faced some big challenges.

We too are like that sometimes. When things go south unexpectedly, we tend to look at the past through totally different lenses. When a bad situation takes to long to right itself, we suddenly remember the good old days. There is a danger of being too attached to the past to miss the new and beautiful things God is doing or about to do in your life. God is the God of new things and new beginnings, always moving forward. May you not miss it because you are clinging to the past.

My prayer for you is " ...that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people," Ephesians 1:18.

Our God is a good God, a forward-moving God. Let go of the past to get to the greater.

Blessings.

Love, Lady Monica❤
