There are some scriptures I cannot forget even if I try. They are the first scriptures I memorized as a child. One is Revelation 3:20. It says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." It has also been depicted in a painting and it is perhaps among the most popular paintings of biblical texts.
This verse is found in the letter to the Church in Laodicea, one of the seven churches addressed in the book of Revelation. This was a church that had completely lost its way; its focus had been shifted from what was important; they had become lukewarm towards the things of God; they had been blinded by their prosperity thinking they had all they needed. Jesus was no longer at the center of their lives or their worship! Jesus rebuked them, called them to repentance and then invited them to let Him in once again!
Yes, this was a letter to a church calling for corporate repentance but it also paints a picture of a Person (Christ) who longs for a close and intimate relationship with His children. He wants to be in your life. He wants to be part of your decision making; He wants to direct you; He wants to counsel you. He does not want to be ignored or be consulted only when you are in trouble. He wants to have daily communion with you!
He is not about to impose Himself on you but He is offering true riches; He is offering to cover you and to open your eyes to the truth (which will set you free from all kinds of bondage and addictions). Jesus wants to have an intimate one-on-one with you and the benefits of allowing this closeness are endless!
Take a moment to examine your relationship with Christ, identify the areas on your life where you can use more of Him!
