(Judges 1: 12-15 Joshua 15:16-19)
Asking can be so hard but it teaches us humility, dependency, confidence and tenacity too.
One day, Achsah, Caleb's daughter came to her father. As soon as she dismounted from her donkey, her father asked her "what can I do for you?". She unabashedly replied " Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water". So Caleb gave her "the upper and the lower springs".
What does it take to ask for something? Why is it so hard to ask from our Father in Heaven? Sometimes we shy away from asking because we are too shy; we are too proud; we are too afraid; we do not think we will get it; we think God and well, people must know what we need.
True, God knows you need that job, that car, that house, that marriage, that child, that business but He still says ask. Jesus said if we who are evil know how to give good things to our children, how much more our Father in Heaven!
Achsah had already been given land and she could have thought to herself that asking for anything more would look like greed. But the springs were necessary to water the land! This was no frivolous ask. So she purposefully saddled her donkey and went to her father to ask. And because she asked she received more than she probably expected: both the upper and lower springs.
Today, may God embolden you to ask for that promotion, that pay raise, that job and anything else you need. It is not too small, too big, too ridiculous or too impossible for God. Do not miss a good opportunity because you failed to ask. And if do not receive it on the first ask, remember the persistent widow and ask again.
