Job's Wife

Another one of the nameless women of the Bible. Most of us despise her in our hearts because anytime her name comes up all because of her words to Job, "Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!”Job 2:9 NKJV. How could she say that right? A good godly Christian wife should not speak like that. Ha!

We always talk about how Job lost everything including his children. Somehow we forget she also lost everything including the ten children she carried in her womb. Yes, Job suffered physically with painful boils but her loss was equally great.

Perhaps it was bitterness in her heart brought on by the inexplicable anguish she felt at losing everything, that made her utter those words. She had gone to bed one night as the wife of the wealthiest man in "all of the East" and woken up a penniless, homeless pauper. Now that will do a number on anyone. Maybe she did not have as strong a relationship with God as her husband did which made his initial reaction totally different from his wife's. It could also be that her words were motivated by love and empathy. She could not bear the sight of her husband in such excruciating pain.

From her story, we can learn one or two lessons.

  1. Let us build our relationship with God to the point of trusting him wholeheartedly even when He does not give us what we want or when we cannot understand why He does or does not do something.

  2. Let us not allow bitterness to take root in our hearts as it can mess up our relationship with God and people.

May the peace of God which passes all understanding guard our hearts and minds no matter the storms we encounter in this life.

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica❤
