King Hezekiah is known as the guy who caused God to reverse His statement and add fifteen more years to his life.
Here is his character sketch, "Hezekiah did right in the sight of the Lord , in accordance with everything that David his father had done. He ...broke down the images and cut down the Asherim...Hezekiah trusted in and relied confidently on the Lord ,...; so that after him there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him...he clung to the Lord ; he did not turn away from [faithfully] following Him, but he kept His commandments,..." 2 Kings 18
Interestingly, Hezekiah did not grow up in a godly home. His father Ahaz was unabashedly an idol worshiper, a corrupt king, did not follow the ways of God and did not set any good example for his son to follow. Yet with this kind of father Hezekiah could become the kind of man he was. This clearly shows God's transforming power can work in and on us irrespective of our backgrounds.
Not everyone who was raised in a godly home where Bible reading and prayers were the norm ends up having a close walk with God also.
Your relationship with God is personal, it does not depend on your parents or your grandparents. Yes, if they love God and brought you up in His ways it gives you a leg up but you and I irrespective of our backgrounds must build our own relationship with God. Your walk with Him depends on you and Him and no one else. Seek Him for yourself and let nothing hold you back.
