Hezekiah was one of the good kings of Judah. The bible says he did what was right in the sight of God just like his father David did. We all know how God felt about David, the man after his own heart. So if Hezekiah is compared to David then he was in a good spot with God. True to form when he came to the throne, he turned the people of Judah from idol worship back to God!
"Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him." 2 Kings 18:5. What a testimony!
Yet in 2 Kings 20, Hezekiah fell sick to the point of death. God sent the prophet Isaiah to Hezekiah not to bring him divine healing, not to encourage him that all would be well; but to tell him he was about to die. Isaiah's task was simple: tell the king to put his house in order for he would not recover from the illness.
Hezekiah's response is my focus today. He did not accept God's decision; he was not ready to die so he decided to make his case before God. After all justice and mercy are the foundation of His throne.
In twenty two words, Hezekiah made his defense before the just God. Here it is: “Remember, Lord , how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” ...2 Kings 20:3.
God accepted Hezekiah's plea and the bible says before Isaiah left the king's court, God told him to go back and tell Hezekiah that He, the almighty God had changed His mind and would add fifteen more years to his life.
My question to you today is if you are asked to defend yourself before the Lord in twenty two words, what will you say?
Cornelius the Gentile received a divinely orchestrated visit from Peter because his "prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God." Acts 10:4. What are you doing for God? What have you done for Him? How are you serving others? How is your worship? How are you living your life? Ponder over these and attempt to write your twenty two words today.
