HONOR - 1 Sam 2:30b
My father is a wise man. He is smart, brilliant, quite humorous yet very serious. His greatest attribute will be his love for God. When I met him (at birth, of course. lol), he was a Christian and that has not changed. I have learnt so many valuable lessons from him more through deeds than words for he is a man of few words.
During one of our short phone conversations yesterday (he does not like to linger on the phone too 🤦♀), God came up and my father talked to me about his favorite scripture. "... for those who honor Me I will honor..." I Samuel 2:30. He said this scripture has been his guiding principle in life and he has always done his best to honor God in everything he does.
Honor means to regard with great respect, to esteem, to give public recognition etc. The conversation sent me down memory lane and I started musing over my dad's life. He was for the longest time a lay preacher of the Methodist church. I recall the many times we traveled with him to preach in villages and towns he was assigned to. He loved and still loves God unapologetically and never misses an opportunity to serve him in whatever capacity he is needed. Over the years God has blessed him. He is 81 years old, healthy, strong and as alert as ever. He still drives himself to church services and meetings amidst our (well, mostly my mom's) protests. He has honored God since I have known him with his money, time, giftings and his life! And God in turn has been good to him.
He said to me yesterday that God's promise to bless those who walk with Him and honor Him is sure and steadfast. He will not change His mind; He locks up His promises to us and throws away the key; His promises are secure. It reminds me of Numbers 23:19: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
Let us all pray for grace to walk well and on track with God, to serve Him diligently and to do His will and He will bless us indeed.
