Getting Up and Going to His Feet
Updated: Nov 1, 2018
The name Hannah means grace, favor. Grace attracts favor. Despite the grace and favor Hannah possessed, she was barren because the Lord had closed her womb. (1 Samuel 1:6) Sometimes favor is hidden or delayed temporarily. The absence of your miracle does not mean God has forgotten you. Setbacks do not imply that God will not give what we desire; rather setbacks teach us that our source is no where else but in God.
Hannah was often provoked and ridiculed by her rival, Peninnah. (1 Samuel 1:7) Hannah and Peninnah lived in the same environment. Sometimes we are forced to live with our adversary— the things that remind us of our problems. However through the grace of God, you can coexist in the environment with your adversary and prevail.
Year after year, Hannah followed Elkanah and went up to the house of the Lord. Hannah knew how to worship in the midst of her troubles. Though a mockery, Hannah still pursued God. Hannah refused to allow herself to become comfortable. Elkanah treated Hannah more favorably than Peninnah (1 Samuel 1:5), yet she refused to settle for comfort; she sought for her miracle. Refuse to settle for the average, pursue the miracle contained within the Word of God.
In 1 Samuel 1:8, Elkanah inquires of Hannah, Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?. Be careful of words that are pleasing to the ear, but may cause you to miss your opportunity. Beware of words that come merely to excite you. Know the meaning and intentions of the words you receive. Do not let the words of people oppress you or inhibit you from stepping into your season.
Hannah endured the provocation of her rival Penninah until she got up! (1 Samuel 1:9) There comes a time where you must get up from your place of discouragement; free yourself of people and places where you’re tolerated. Go where you’re embraced and celebrated. Get up from any situation or environment that oppresses or frustrates you. Such environments will prevent you from arriving at your destiny and stepping into purpose.
God has more for you if only you get up and step into your season. Go for more of God, more of the zeal, more of your destiny. There is something better in Bethel; get up and pursue more! Though in bitterness and anguish, Hannah arose and prayed. Get up and get back to His feet. Pursue and you shall recover all.
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of Hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
1 Samuel 1:10 (KJV)
