If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say "I can't wait for 2020 to be over", I would not be a millionaire but I would have a chunk of dough! Well, here we are, it is over in New Zealand and Australia. In less than twenty hours it will be over for us too. 2020 is almost over, now what?
We always talk about leaving the past behind and looking forward to what lies ahead in the coming year. It is not always easy though. It takes grace, effort and sheer determination to do that. It would be beyond good if we could leave the Conoravirus in 2020, shut the door on it and be done! The reality though is some will still be in quarantine as we cross into 2020. Tomorrow we will hear about the new number of infections and deaths.
The great Apostle Paul knew leaving the past behind was not a walk in the park. He left us some sound advise on how to do that, based on his own personal experience. He said, "...but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus". Philippians 3:13-14. Reaching forward and pressing toward denote great effort. That is the attitude I am entering 2021 with.
I am pressing forward regardless of how 2020 looked looked. I am reaching for the good things that lie ahead. I am refusing to let the gloom on 2020 cover me like a blanket. I am choosing to believe 2021 will be better. I am fueling myself with hope and I am trusting that God will be with me in 2021. I urge you to do the same.
Let me end by sharing the scripture that is catapulting me into the new year. "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”"
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV.
Since God has already gone ahead of me, I can and will boldly walk into 2021. Happy last day of 2020!
