finding my purpose

"What is my purpose in this life?" is a question everyone asks at a certain point.

The beginning of a new year is a good time to ponder over your purpose. Many scriptures point to why God created us. He did not create us to just pass through this life. If you want to live a purposeful, fulfilling life then it is important that you discover your purpose, i.e., the reason why you are here.

  • "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Eph. 2:10

  • For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer. 29:11

  • “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart..."Jer. 1:5

These are just a few of the many scriptures that tell us that God created each us to fulfill a certain purpose, and to discover yours you must ask your creator.

If you've been waking up lately dreading your day, dragging yourself and wondering if it is always going to be this way, you are not living a purposeful life. Here are a few more telltale signs you are missing your purpose in this life:

  • You do not feel fulfilled in your job or vocation.

  • You just do it because you have to or you need to survive.

  • You feel stuck or trapped.

  • You want a change but do not know how to make it happen.

  • You lack direction.

  • You seem to be wondering from one thing to another not knowing where you are headed.

How to discover your purpose?

  1. The starting point in discovering your purpose is to go to God.

  2. Figure out your strengths and giftings. God has placed in each of us specific gifts and your purpose is likely linked to these gifts and strengths.

  3. Determine what you are passionate about - what do you find joy in?, what excites you and makes you feel fulfilled?

  4. If anything agitates, irks or bothers you so much that you want to do something about it, that may just be where your calling or purpose lies.

You are here for a reason.

I know this world is not your home and you're "just a-passing through" but since our passage may take seventy years or more, surely God meant for it to be a meaningful passage. He mandated Adam and Eve and therefore you and I to "... be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion ..." Gen. 1:28.

Let us do all we can to ensure that when our journey on earth comes to an end we can confidently say we lived our lives to the fullest, played our part and fulfilled our purpose.

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica
