F.E.A.R! A four letter word that can turn your world upside down. Everyone has something they fear. Fear of not succeeding, fear of children not turning out right, fear of sickness, fear of dying, fear of disappointing loved ones, fear of not having enough, fear of tomorrow, fear of not finding a spouse, the list is endless.
Fear can be incapacitating. It can stop you from taking necessary risks. Fear can stop you from loving. It is a weapon the enemy uses to halt your progress; for the longer you stay in a place of fear, the more likely it is that you will not take any productive steps forward. Fear can make us see (negative) things that be not as if they are.
In Isaiah 41:10, God encourages us not to fear and promises us His presence. He says: "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
You may have a legitimate reason to be afraid of what you are afraid of. Legitimate or not, fear robs you of your peace and for as long as you allow it to take center stage in your life or control you, you will not enjoy your life and you will know no peace.
I do have fears too and I believe they are real fears but I have found a way to deal with them. I pray about them and then I consciously and intentionally release the fear. I have come to the realization that the things I fear are things I have no control over or have no power of my own to change. So I hand them over to the One who can do something about them. He does not always take away the object of my fear. Sometimes He strengthens me to face them and other times He gives me His peace that "transcends all understanding".
So fear not, the Lord is with you and whenever fear threatens to overwhelm you, remember the two-step approach: Pray. Release.
