Crooked Paths

I mentioned Ecclesiastes 7:13 in passing in yesterday's piece. This has been one of my beloved scriptures from the day I discovered it. When I read it for the first time it was as if a light bulb went off in my head, then a chill went through my bones!!

"Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked?"

We love to attribute crooked paths to "the enemy" because it is easier for us to handle adversity if it comes from the camp of the devil. In fact we have been conditioned to think all bad things come from satan. Period. When something bad happens to us our default reaction is to bind, cancel, refuse, reject, rebuke all in the name and blood of Jesus.

A lot of the energy we expend on this will be saved if we take a moment to enquire of the Lord if He made that particular crooked path and for what purpose?

I bet when David was called into King Saul's service he thought God had given him a straight path to the throne. He would get to be mentored by his predecessor and learn first hand what it meant to be king. Alas! It was not to be so. It was not long before Saul attempted to pin him to the wall with the spear and before David could blink he was a fugitive. His path to the throne had suddenly been made crooked! No amount of prayer and fasting would have accelerated David's journey to the throne. God orchestrated it all, crooked paths included. About fifteen years after he was anointed king of Israel, his kingship became a reality.

Joseph had amazing dreams of his greatness. His dreams clearly indicated he was destined for big things, but boy, did he walk some crooked paths!!! The coat of many colors, the pit, slavery, Potiphar's house, the prison, the seeming abandonment were all part of God's plan to bring Joseph to that place of greatness. A forty day fast and impassioned prayers would not not caused Pharoah's cupbearer to remember him any sooner (Gen. 41). For God had planned that Pharaoh would dream on a certain day and time and that dream would be Joseph's get-out-of-jail-free-card, literally.

Yes, God can make our paths crooked for His good and divine purpose and when He does noone except He can make those paths straight again. He will make them straight when He deems fit, not because He is an aloof, autocratic tyrant but because He loves you and I and knows what is best for us. He knows your future, that expected end and He knows the best way to get you there. He knows how to mold you and prepare you to possess that good place and if we stick with Him, we can say with certainty as the Apostle Paul did in Romans 8:38 "And we know that all things God work together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica ❤
