Behave Like A Christian
That is the caption in my Bible over Romans 12:9-21. I want us this morning to do a review of our "performance" as Christians. The only way the next person can tell whether you're are a Christian or not is by your behavior or your lifestyle.
Usually the act of accepting Christ as your savior is done privately and since you can't go round with a bullhorn announcing to everyone you're a Christian, the fruits you bear become the indicator of the faith you profess.
So below is the checklist we are all going to use to determine if we are really projecting the Christ we confess. As I said this list is reproduced from the Bible not from my mind.
Love genuinely (without hypocrisy).
Abhor (hate, be disgusted with) what is evil.
Cling to what is good.
Show kind affection for one another with brotherly love.
Honor the other person above yourself. Don't be a know-it-all.
Serve the Lord with zeal.
Rejoice in hope, be patient in affliction and be steadfast in prayer.
Bless those who persecute you; do not curse them.
Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
Live in harmony with one another.
Do not be proud, be humble and associate with those not as privileged as you.
Do not be conceited ( thinking too highly of yourself)
Don't repay evil for evil.
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Do not be vengeful. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.
I hope this nudges you to do some soul searching and put some things. This list of course is not exhaustive but it's a good start. Remember we are here as ambassadors for Christ and so must represent Him right. May the Holy Spirit enable us to live a life that is pleasing to God and and by so doing draw others to Him not just by our words but also by our deeds.
