I am a very careful driver. I do my best to observe speed limits and obey the rules of the road. I have never had an accident, not even a little one. I have never been pulled over or been given a ticket. My driving record is as clean as a whistle and I like to boast and brag about it! Well, it all changed last Saturday.
Kids have a week's vacation from school so we asked each of them to choose something for us to do together. Faith said she wanted to go to IHOP. So off we went! As we drove I saw blue lights in my rear view mirror, I pulled aside to allow the police car to pass, then it parked behind me. The shock was real. Me? What did I do? A very nice officer came to my rolled-down window, told me I was doing 40-45 mph in a 30 zone! Long story short, he let me off with a warning!
This incident reminds me of one of my favorite scriptures, "Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." I Corinthians 10:12. We are all susceptible to falling and being overtaken by temptation if we do not exercise care. I never overestimate my spirituality. Having walked with God most of my life, I know that certain things will not trip me up but I am also aware that I am human.
Like the Corinthian church Paul was cautioning, some of us like to push to see how close they can get to sin without sinning. It is a dangerous thing to do. Paul similarly cautioned the Romans "...So don’t think highly of yourself, but fear what could happen." Romans 11:20
We all need to be watchful and avoid places and people and things that can lead us to sin. If there is anything to brag and boast about it should be how grace saved us and not how good we are. Let us also make allowances for those around us who struggle against sin, hold them up in prayer, encourage them along and not thumb our noses at them.
Needless to say I can no longer brag about what a good driver I am; I will be even more careful on the road! 😭
Love, Lady Monica ❤
