Be Kind

The Apostle Paul concluded his "Instructions for Christian living" to the Ephesians this way, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32.

Kindness means "the quality of being generous, friendly and considerate". It also means being loving, understanding, forgiving and compassionate, sensing and responding to the needs of others before they even ask.

God is kind and He demonstrates His kindness to us each day in countless ways. His greatest act of kindness was sending Jesus to die and save us from the bondage of sin. He looked on us with compassion and love as we miserably wallowed in sin, working our way slowly to eternal damnation, then He stepped in and offered us salvation and eternal life.

Jesus lived life on earth in kindness. He went about doing good, healing the sick, raising the dead, drawing the rejected and dejected to Him and making them feel valuable. He would speak to multitudes and then feed them out of compassion. The feeding of the five thousand was prompted by Jesus' compassion even as the disciples urged Him to send the crowd away to get food for themselves. He said "... “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” Matthew 14:16. He did not have to feed them but His kind heart pushed Him to care for their obvious pressing physical need.

As Christians called to imitate Christ, we must be kind and we must demonstrate the kindness of our savior daily. Kindness is also a slice of the fruit of the Spirit; it is a work of the Spirit and so as we submit more and more to the Holy Spirit we will be more kind.

Yes, we all have problems, we are all busy, we are all struggling to get by but it is my prayer that we will look beyond ourselves and our issues and be kind to someone, stranger, friend or foe. Have a kind word for someone, send an encouraging text (not a forward) to a friend, share what you have, pray for someone, stop by that person's house to say hello, call just to check up on a sister or a brother, do random acts of kindness. While you are at it, teach it to your children too. Kindness forces us not to be selfish and this world can benefit greatly from selflessness.

Think about ways you can be kind today knowing that by so doing you are reflecting the very nature of God.

Blessings.

Love,

Lady Monica.❤
