Jeremiah 29 on my mind this morning. There are so many lessons in that chapter alone! Four chapters earlier, God told the people of Judah through the Prophet Jeremiah that He has had enough of their disobedience, refusal to change their ways in spite of several warnings and their idolatry. Their cup was full and God was preparing to unleash great punishment on them.
By chapter 29, God had caused Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to attack Judah and carried its finest and most productive into captivity in Babylon.
God being God, ever merciful who does not stay angry forever (Is. 57:16), sent the captives a word assuring them that He had not abandoned them!
While they were feeling confused, dejected and drowning in sorrow, God through Jeremiah again instructed them to settle down in Babylon, build houses, cultivate farms, marry and raise families, pray for Babylon's prosperity and get involved in the community! ( Jer. 29:4-7). Of course they would rather return home than settle in a strange pagan land!
God was in effect telling them and us too that He is able to bless us wherever we find ourselves. His blessings are not confined to a particular geographic location. Our circumstances need not be perfect to trigger His blessings. If He could bless and prosper slaves in a foreign land and cause them to own houses and other property then He can bless us too wherever we may find ourselves!
That takes away quite a number of excuses right?! All God wants from us is a willingness to move, to do and to work! Whatever we put our hands to, He is able to bless and multiply! His mighty hand extends to any place and any location! He can bless and prosper you anywhere and in any situation.
