Activating God’s Power In Your Life
Power is the ability to act or accomplish something; strength, force, possession of control or authority, influence over others. God is the source of all power. “Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God.” Psalm 62:11
Every day, signs of God’s power are made evident to us. Sleeping and rising up is a demonstration of God’s power. Rainfall and sunshine are all demonstrations of God’s power. God’s power is at work when you receive total healing despite the doctor’s unfavorable reports. When a great door you were not expecting opens or favor you did not expect comes to you; it is God’s power moving on your behalf. As we enter into His temple, we experience His power through prayer, worship, the teaching of His Word. God’s power manifests as people are delivered, healed and as lives are transformed.
God’s power is indescribable, the nature and the magnitude of His power is beyond our human understanding. The earliest manifestation of His power is seen in creation; out of nothing, God made everything. The Bible is replete with accounts of the demonstration of God’s power; verses upon verses depict the power and sovereignty of God. Throughout the old and new testaments, we are inundated with countless manifestations of power. Perhaps the greatest display of God’s power was raising Jesus Christ from the dead.
God isn’t weak; He does not require permission to act. He calls himself the God of all flesh and asks if there is anything that is too hard for Him. He is omnipotent, all powerful. It’s important to accept that God is omnipotent because your understanding of the power of God will transform your thinking and your actions. In Ephesians 1:19, Paul describes God’s power as incomparable. “…and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength…” (NIV) Paul was lost for words to describe God’s power such that he settled for “incomparably great” because there was nothing he could compare God’s power to.
Yet, in spite of the overwhelming evidence we doubt His power sometimes, because we think we are not experiencing it in our own personal lives. God has not performed the miracle you’ve been asking for two years now; that sickness is still persisting. You know in your heart that He can do anything, but the question continues to linger, why has He not done it? The reason for this feeling or thought is because God has not yet answered a particular request.
1 Tim. 1:7 tells us that God has already placed His power in us and Ephesians 1:19-20 describes that power at work in us as the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. We do not need to pray for more power; we just need to activate the power in us to work for us. We activate rather than receive the power because once we are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit; we are filled with God’s power as well. Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
To activate God’s power, live in submission to His will. As we stay connected to the source of power-God, as we live under His authority, we will live a life of power. Jesus himself lived on earth in submission to the Father and as such His ministry was characterized by demonstrations of power
Activate God’s power by immersing yourself in His Word. When we live in obedience to and apply the Word, we will see God’s power in our lives. The word of God is powerful (Hebrews 4:12) and when Jesus encountered the devil in the wilderness, He used the word to defeat him.
Activate God’s power through prayer. Mark 9 recounts the story of Jesus on the mountain of transfiguration. Upon His return, He found his disciples unable to heal demon-possessed boy.. The disciples whom Jesus had given power and authority to work miracles could not produce the power to heal. In Mark 9:29 Jesus said unto them, “…this kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.” Elijah’s life was characterized by manifestations of power. (James 5:17-18) He prayed earnestly that there would be no rain.
Activate God’s power by faith. By faith, the woman with the issue of blood was healed. She activated the healing power through faith. Luke 8:43-48- “But Jesus said, “Somebody touched me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” (v.46) (NKJV) Jesus could not perform many miracles in Nazareth because of their lack of faith. Mark 6:5-6. The paralytic in Luke 5 was healed as a result of the faith of his friends. (Luke 5:20).
May the Lord help us to gain insight and understanding and get revelation into the surpassing greatness of the power of God that's at work in us. The power that raised Jesus from the dead is resident in you. Activate it.
